SEEDS ARE GENEROUS TEACHERS and the abundance I’ve discovered through saving seeds has led me to realize there’s so many more seeds a plant offers than I could possibly work with alone. It becomes so obvious they must be shared, and that the work of collecting seeds is meant for many hands. Seeds remind us about generosity, connection, and abundance — they teach us about sharing when you have more than you need. May we realize the opportunity we have to share seeds and as we do, learn how to be responsible stewards on this beautiful earth.
bless the seeds we share
At this threshold of new beginnings, what might you have to share with this seed in your hands?
What would you say to the spicebush bud in its golden yellow emergence in April sunlight? How would you share your gratitude with the cardinal call, and with the first tiny woodland blooms?
Could you name the colors as they emerge from muted landscapes? Moss, fern, deep forest, and chartreuse green.
To sway with the trees when the winds come.
To feel your own roots.
To hold a stone in your hand.
To walk slowly through the open forest and keep whispering, thank you.
To rest in the center.
To be in the journey.
No new versus old version, no dead logs in the forest versus living trees. What if a spiral path made of fallen trees is a gift for the entire ecosystem?
What would the water say if you followed its flow down to the stream and listened to its music?
Like the earth forever changing to hold the flow of the river, notice how you are becoming the stone forever shaped by the flow. Let it rearrange you.
Let your exhale be of benefit to all the plants. Let the work of your hands as they sow seeds contribute to a regenerative rhythm between humanity and the soil — between all living beings and the earth.
May this opening bring to light what’s ready for transformation within.
May we hold it all gently with a new heartfelt compassion and care.
Thank you for the new cycle beginning around us and within us.
